The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport has responded to claims a driver breached the body’s alcohol policy at Queensland Raceway last weekend.
Speculation in the paddock on Sunday suggested that a competitor had returned a positive test during the Shannons Nationals event and was unable to compete.
CAMS has confirmed that alcohol testing was undertaken across the Shannons Nationals meeting at the Ipswich track, but is unable to disclose any results and confirm or deny any breach.
Upon speaking to CAMS, Speedcafe.com has been issued a brief statement from the body in regard to the matter.
“CAMS can confirm alcohol testing was conducted at Queensland Raceway on the weekend, but is unable to disclose any information about any results, positive or negative,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, the organisation’s policy regarding failed alcohol test reads as follows:
“(a) On first occasion that a Participant returns a Positive Reading following a Confirmation Test, that Participant will: (i) Be excluded from that particular day of Event; and (ii) Issued an official warning letter, noting the Participant’s first official breach of this Policy.
Further breaches result in licence suspensions.
On the second occasion a Participant returns a Positive Reading following a Confirmation Test that Participant will:
(i) Be excluded from participating at any Events for a period of six (6)months; and (ii) Issued a letter noting the Participant’s second official breach of this Policy.
On the third occasion a Participant returns a Positive Reading following a Confirmation Test that Participant will:
(i) Be excluded from participating at any Events for a period of two (2) years; and
(ii) Not be permitted to participate at any further Events until successfully completing a recognised alcohol counselling program as specified by CAMS at the Participant’s own cost.
