Famous Bathurst win for Lowndes/Skaife

Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife have led TeamVodafone to a famous 1-2 finish in the 2010 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Jamie Whincup proved unable to match the speed of Lowndes in the final six lap shootout, but along with Steve Owen, Whincup secured the first team 1-2 finish at Bathurst since 1984, and just the third in the race’s history.

The #888 car and #1 crossed the line in a formation finish.

It was a day for the history books, with the race record of 6h19m set in 1991 being broken – Lowndes crossing the line 6h13m after the race began.

Car #888’s victory ensured the race did not see a first-time winner – with Lowndes and Skaife the only combination in the field to have both won the race before.

Garth Tander and Cameron McConville battled hard to finish third for the Toll Holden Racing Team, benefitting from Will Davison putting the squad’s sister car into the fence at Reid Park on lap 153.

Friday fast-man Jason Bright moved the Trading Post Commodore that he shared with Matt Halliday to fourth in the closing stages.

James Courtney and Warren Luff ended the day as the first Ford home in fifth, providing solid points to Courtney’s championship campaign.

Greg Murphy/Allan Simonsen, Lee Holdsworth/David Besnard, Russell Ingall/Paul Morris, Mark Winterbottom/Luke Youlden and Michael Caruso/Greg Ritter rounded out the top 10.
