Nine astute punters scooped hefty payouts after backing Australian Jack Miller in the Dutch MotoGP.
Miller produced a brilliant ride in a rain-hit Assen race to score his maiden win in motorcycle racing’s top class.
The Townsville star, who has battled a difficult second year in MotoGP after being elevated straight from Moto3 at the end of 2014, was paying the lucrative odds of $501.
One punter’s $45 wager on Miller returned $22,545 while another raked in $16,716.67.
The smallest bet on Miller was a $4 each way punt which saw the backer win a tidy $1337.
“Miller was magnificent on Sunday night, securing his first MotoGP and putting almost $50,000 into the pockets of nine happy Sportsbet punters,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Bulmer.
Miller is a lowly 13th in the standings, 112 points off the leader, and remains a $501 chance to win the championship.
Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo, second in the points, is favourite to take the title again at $2.40 with leader Marc Marquez at $2.88 while Valentino Rossi, third in the points, is next in the betting at $3.
