The US F1 team has announced that ex-pat Australian John Anderson has will be its team manager in its inaugural season in Formula 1.
Anderson has worked in America in a variety of racing fields in the past 30 years, including jobs with Gerry Forsythe, Barry Green, Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt.
Last year, Anderson was the team manager for Gil de Ferran’s ALMS squad.
Andersony realised one of his career goals in 2005 when he called the shots for Dan Wheldon to win the Indianapolis 500.
Two years later he did it again with Dario Franchitti.
Ironically, one of his biggest disappointments came at Indy in 2002 when he called the shots for Paul Tracy, only to have what looked to be a race win overturned by Indy Racing League officials.
USF1 team principal Ken Anderson (no relation) said that John will bring experience and order to the new team.
“I’ve known John and been close with him for nearly 20 years,” he said.
“To be able to hire someone as experienced, as organised and as successful as he is will only enhance our team as we move forward.
“He is simply the best at what he does and knows what it takes to be successful in motorsports.”
After leaving Sydney in 1980, John Anderson said that he never expected to stay in America for so long.
“I came to the US for what I thought was a few years and I’ve never left, and I’ve had some good runs,” he said.
“Now to be able to have the opportunity to work with America’s Formula 1 team, especially with my long-time friend Ken Anderson, is an unbelievable opportunity.
“Ken’s mindset of US F1 – to have an open mind, be flexible and explore best practices – is why I’m here and I want to be a part of this.”
