Volvo Car Australia has reiterated its intention to undertake a complete withdrawal from the Supercars Championship at the conclusion of the current season.

As reported on Monday, Garry Rogers Motorsport has instructed its legal representatives to commence action over the manufacturer’s impending exit.

The manufacturer made public its decision in May, with the announcement closely followed by a declaration from racing supplier Cyan that the cars and engines will be recalled to Sweden at year’s end.

Rogers claims that the team’s request to retain its Volvo equipment for a further 12 months in order to have time to source a replacement manufacturer have been ignored by the company.

Responding to Rogers’ public declaration that legal action will be taken, a VCA spokesman told Speedcafe.com that the company’s position remains unchanged.

“Our current three-year agreement with Garry Rogers Motorsport concludes at the end of the 2016 season,” the spokesman told Speedcafe.com.

“We’ve enjoyed our involvement in the sport and we certainly look forward to working with GRM and Supercars for a successful conclusion to this year.”

Volvo has won six Supercars race since joining the category through GRM in 2014, all with driver Scott McLaughlin.

The youngster cited Volvo’s decision to leave GRM at the conclusion of this season as the deciding factor in electing to sign with rival squad DJR Team Penske for 2017.
