DJR Team Penske will mark its return to a two-car model by running both cars in Shell Helix colours at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.
The team has confirmed that both Fabian Coulthard’s #12 and Scott Pye’s #17 will be resplendent in a mildly reworked version of the Shell livery that was seen on the latter’s car at three events in 2015.
Last year’s Clipsal 500 saw Shell take primary sponsorship on a DJR car for the first time in 11 seasons.
Following Adelaide, this year will also see Pye’s car sponsored by Shell at other, yet-to-be-confirmed, events.
The team’s latest look will be on track at Queensland Raceway today, with Fabian Coulthard undertaking a shakedown in his new car before joining Pye for a two-car ride day program.
“Last year’s Shell Helix livery was definitely a fan favourite,” said DJR Team Penske managing director Ryan Story.
“We had generations of fans all telling us that it was one of the best looking cars out there.
“As good as the car looks, it’s just the tip of the iceberg in our expanded partnership with Viva Energy.
“They share an extensive and successful commercial arrangement with Penske Transportation Group International here in Australia which makes the 2016 partnership even more important for the team.”
DJR Team Penske is expected to run its two cars in identical colours at the majority, but not all events this year.
The team will continue to run through a succession of primary sponsors, many of which are Penske companies or tie in directly with the firm’s Australian operations.
“Our relationship with DJR Team Penske goes beyond a sponsorship,” general manager of sales for Viva Energy Australia, Daniel Ridgway, said
“We work together as partners on and off the track, technically with the race team and commercially with the Penske businesses.
“Shell has a long tradition of taking what is learned from the track and transferring that knowledge into high quality products.”
