At the third round of the Shannons Trophy Series held at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park at The Bend, some titles were finalised while others continue to future events.
In terms of track time over the October 14-15 weekend, nothing surpassed the Monochrome Invited/Mobil 1 Production Cars which had four one-hour competitive outings. Shane Smollen continued his winning way in his #56 GT4 Porsche Cayman 718, this time with the assistance of Ricky Capo while in Production Cars, Coleby Cowham and Lindsay Kearns were the best in their #25 Class A2 Ford Mustang GT.
Oscar Targett (#4) looked set to take out the penultimate round of Michelin Porsche Sprint Challenge after he won the two sprint races. But a feisty 21-lap enduro where the top five finished a second apart, changed all that. With penalties applied to first and second across the line, Lachlan Bloxsom (#23) and Targett, Aron Shields (##116) was the race winner with the round going to points leader Marco Giltrap (#64).
Matt Hillyer (#2) had already done enough to win the Australian Formula Ford Series while his Sonic Racing teammate Jake Santalucia (#4) was able to finish the season second overall ahead of Zak Lobko (#7).
Despite missing practice, qualifying and the first race due to business commitments, John Paul Drake (#66) competed in the last two races to confirm his series victory. Mark Lauke (#55) won the three races while young Alex Gardner (#94) took out both Workhorse Radical Cup Australia 50-minute races and leads with a round to go.
There were three races for MARC Cars and three different winners. In MARC GTs, John Goodacre (#66) won the first and the round, Max Vidau (#207) the second, and Geoff Taunton (#4) the last. In a small field of Excels, son of Tickford Racing boss Rod Nash, Charlie (#155), won the three encounters.
